New Young Pony Club take to the stage with little fanfare but then deliver a 30 minute hipsters set infront of mondeo man, his wife and their teenage sons and daughters. It goes down OK but NYPC deserve more - they are a classy pop indie act with gimmicky t-shirts, good hair but also actual musical ability - the songs are arty yet accessible. Check them out now before they are massive.
Lily Allen's backing band take to the stage to huge cheers as they adjust their instruments and get prepared. The cheers drop but quickly re-appear ten-fold as the London lady herself appears and she bursts into her latest hit “LDN”.
Lily wearing a union jack coloured dress that fits with her signature looks and fits the part, her band are tight and her voice is strong. She performs well but there is something missing. The songs. Apart from her two hits, future single “Littlest Things” and encore track Alfie - the songs are all mediocre sub reggae and instantly forgettable. It’s a sad fact when other than “Smile” the two biggest roars are for her acoustic covers of “Naïve” by The Kooks and “Somewhere Only We Know” by Keane.
Hopefully the record company will allow her more time to get a quality second album rather than rush release a record (like Alright, Still was) to maintain interest in her.
