Attack Attack!
Attack Attack! - Attack Attack!
Released: 1st January 1970

Opening with a curious wandering piano, the slow blend into metal is an odd one. But then something even odder happens – an electronically distorted voice (not that far removed for the way Kayne West alters his) starts to sing, and a sort of metal, dance beat kicks in. I’m very confused right now as to what i’m listening to. Screaming metal, means lonely piano, meets dance, meets R n’ B pop?

I have no idea whose bright idea this was – but if some clueless producer seems to actually think that this will bring fans of four very (VERY!!!) different genres of music together then they are going to be surely mistaken! But then again there are a lot of wacky teens out there that will listen to any old crap – And anything different is an excuse good enough for them.

The metal aspect itself is just about bearable. The classical aspect of the music as well is fairly inspired and alone would make quite a pretty side project for the composer – It’s the singing and fast dance aspect of the music that is killing its soul. And sadly front men tend to be front and centre a lot - but it’s going to make it more danceable for the Emo Crowd wanting to be a bit more rock. Especially towards the end of the album where the metal gives in the struggle and it’s gone full on emo dance.

So Attack Attack is one for the listener’s tolerance for too much information musically. The band surely must be commended for at least attempting something new – But in their attempt to create a new musically genre – the cutting and pasting of others just doesn’t do it. The songs that do kind of work have already been defined elsewhere and what we are left with is a stitch job that is very rough around the edges and somewhat misplaced.
