Hot Chip are definitely one of the bands of the moment, lauded by the press, lumped in with all the current faves and signed to a major.
So no pressure to deliver the goods then lads? The CD comes with four, yes four versions of the same song. Come on EMI lets give the listener some value for money please!
The song’s a grower and takes a couple of listens. It’s good old indie dance, but on a much more mellow feel. Think ‘loaded’ mixed in with the NEW FADS ‘fishes eyes’ and some hundred and thousands thrown into the bowl. There’s a post-comedown feel about it. You know what I mean, end of a party, 5am in the morning, sick to death of drum and bass and Oasis. It’s the sort of record Pete Wiggs and Bob Stanley would of made if Sarah Cracknell had lost the address on the way to the St. Etienne audition and hired a bloke instead. Oh yeah, and it’s the only song I’ve ever heard where they name check ‘stickle bricks’. The DFA remix is worth some perusal time as well. Wonderful, gloriously dreamy and catchy. Hot Chip ride into town and leave with your devotion.
