You can tell that things are not right in the world when the perennially positive, soothing pop-meister himself, Mr Rufus Wainwright’s lyrics start showing signs of bemusement and even anger. The melody and song structure is still beautifully layered, featuring a hypnotic piano trickle, uplifting guitars and the man’s vocal approach is still laid back and heartening. However, the message is not a happy one;
“I’m going to a town that has already been burnt down,
I’m going to a place that has already been disgraced.
I’m gonna see some folks who have already been let down,
I’m so tired of America.”
This trailer to the forthcoming fifth album ‘Release The Stars’, shows that Rufus still very much has something to say and has his own, unique way of saying it.
