The Sound of Hush
The Sound of Hush - For All The Right Reasons
Released: 1st February 2010
Label: Little Tornado / Shell Shock

The press release to this reads like a singer-songwriter lover’s indulgent dream. References to Stevie Nicks, Dolly Parton and Tracy Chapman, the kind of gooey, visceral lyricisms which make grown men cry, and not just the gay ones. The vocals are as fantastic as the song is lacking in engagement, and though you can hear the cobbled pavements outside Danish music cafes tick-tocking with excitement for the radio-affable gleam of 90’s pop, there’s little that would suggest this is destined for greatness.

It’s a fairly nice pop song, but a little bland dreary rather than dreamy. You can understand when listening to it where the appeal is and rest assured that fans of aforementioned Nicks and Chapman will find something quite pleasing in this, but the Sound of Hush haven’t really taken their inspirations onto new terrain, rather used this single to showcase frontwoman Dorthe Gerlach’s divine charisma, neglecting to put a style behind it, which would give much needed bite. 3/5
