We The Committee - This Won’t End Quietly

London-based duo We The Committee have been garnering quite a following in recent times with their unique cinematic sound. The group, comprised of Pat Knight and Kirsty Sutton, display a rare quality and talent, something lost in most artists.
Though their latest release is short in length, it boasts more emotion and raw talent than found on most 10 or 12 track releases. Their songs of love and love’s losses engage the listener on a shocking level, and leave us excited in the wake of their soon to be released album, Munich.
The first and title track, This Won’t End Quietly, opens with Sutton singing on top of an ever climbing haunting guitar line. The song continues to build with Knight joining in on vocal duties, their voices working in melody. As it comes to an end, the closing instrumentals begin to ring out like a distorted echo. You can’t help but close your eyes and take in every instance of the song.
Following is Christine (Part ii), which is in keeping with the raw cinematic sound of the EP, and the same qualities as the previous track. The two vocalists again working in unison, on top of distorted guitars and drum machine poundings.
Final track Elephants opens slower than the previous two, but closes with a biting guitar. The two vocalists are almost confessional in their emotion on this track, as both sing “The root of the problem / Is you see right through me” over the softer instruments, only for the song to burst open with a resounding guitar line before closing in slight piano.
While we have to wait a few months before Munich is released, This Won’t End Quietly does, if nothing else, show us what music is capable of. We The Committee can be proud in demonstrating how music should be created. This is a band which deserves more recognition than it has. I have no problem in saying that I am very much looking forward to see how they will build on this release in the coming months.
