The attractive musical compactness displayed by the husband/wife team of Kevin and Anita Robinson on their UK debut album ‘The Heat Can Melt Your Brain’, instigated the re-release of their bolder, more epic song-crafting and eclectic hit or miss album ‘Lovers Lead The Way’, by respected indie label Minty Fresh. With ‘Get Yr Blood Sucked Out’, the exploring Portland pair merges the impact of the above two mentioned full-lengths, as well as shuffling in the calming background style of The Mamas & the Papas. The latter craft is partly carried out by Anita in the sonic skating ‘When Planets Collide’ and helped along by Kevin, through previous single ‘From The Devil Himself’.
A wistful Death Cab For Cutie musical frolicking on a summers evening with Bjork vibe is pulsed out on occasions. ’Drown Them Out’ exquisitely encapsulates this aspect, helping to fill the air and your head with calming relaxation. An atmospheric element leans out, in the tempo building guitar led and subtle percussion tinged ‘So Many Miles’. ‘Bill Bixby Blues’ provides a restful The Silent Orchestra meets Bell Orchestre with Aphex Twin looking on, interlude to float you downstream. A roving piano element mingles with slightly eerie percussion in ‘Never Be Like Yesterday’, to show this pair at their most adventurous, as they tread into Four Tet territory. Viva Voce continues to make strides in musical discovery and their footsteps are sure to be closely followed by the more adventurous musical trekker.
