Tripped and Falling’s double track single entitled ‘Ashes and Ember’ starts off with the vocals of front man Chad Affonso, his voice sounds highly influenced by the ‘sing-through-your-nose’ bands like New Found Glory and Fall Out Boy; bands of today.
After the singing introduction accompanied by a violin sound, the band sprint right into battle with a head throwing guitar riff that gets my feet tapping. Unfortunately this ends quickly, stopping dead in it’s tracks to introduce the verse. The bass line dances in the back of my head accompanied a bit later by a meaty sounding fret scream.
After this, a ‘gay bar’ meets serious (yet great) sounding guitar part which would invite a crowd to jump about, thrash around, even mosh to - bringing horror upon the 13 year old ‘Taking Back Sunday’ fan still dancing to the verse bass line.
The second track entitled ‘Bleed Victoria’ starts with a slow late- Blink 182 kind of introduction. Probably writing about an ex-girlfriend, this song takes roots from classic emo bands from across the big ‘ol pond. If Tripped and Falling had a father figure, he’d be ‘the used’ and if they had the bullying older brother he’d be in the form of US new emo rockers on the block ‘The Red Jump Suit Apparatus’. This song shows everything that has influenced ‘Tripped and Falling’ throughout their musical adventures and they’ve thrown ‘em all into one hard-hitting emotional serenade that fans can sing along to, which makes a perfect ending to a single I’d willingly put into my CD collection.
