Hard hitting and in your face, Plan B gives it to you like a vodka straight-up, leaving behind a somewhat nasty aftertaste.
Critics have compared Plan B – real name Ben Drew - to the likes of Eminem. Lyrically, he explores gritty urban life and doesn’t hold back from singing about issues like crime and drugs.
Plan B’s latest single No Good features the lyrics, “I’ll stab you in your eyeball with your biro.” This snippet is probably enough to indicate the tone of the rest of the song. The chorus samples the Prodigy, perhaps the only appealing part to the track.
The A. Brucker remix featuring the female vocals of Mpho Skeef and this contrasts well with Ben’s rapping. Her diluted slow version of the chorus seems to erode the harsh sound to the rest of the song, but this also draws emphasis to the starkness of Ben’s lyrics.
As for the second remix by Chase & Status and Beni G, this is fast paced and erratic. And even if you’re sitting down, it will somehow manage to get your pulse racing.
