Ah, a fine Friday evening down at Barfly! Boozy with the relief of our daily toils coming to an end! But what lay before us on stage are two of the most exciting new bands coming out of Liverpool. Right up there with the NME folks, the bands represent the way music has changed recently . Following on from the Wombats, Elle s'appelle and Go Faster offer a curious antidote to experimental pop.

Go Faster have taken up the mantel from the likes of 28 Costumes a fusion of sporadic guitars, chants and woozy punk funk! The band rip through a fine set including the likes of party stomping 'She Starts Monday'. The band are here tonight on tour with Elle s'appelle as part of the Boss Pop Tour and they went down a storm at the Barfly with their mix of funk and Liverpooldilia.....Most impressive was 'Flammable leisurewear' that had the crowd tapping along, this is their recent single released 18/02/08....Dolly Mixtures indeed!

Now then, now then....it's Elle s'appelle who are up next. A remarkable 3 piece set up with the genius of Andy, Lucy and former Veras drummer Owen! Their precise tight nit approach was evident to see tonight and the band have been growing very big in such a short space of time.....'Little Flame' growls with smashing drums. This was the one that came out on Moshi Moshi singles club on the 19th of November last year.'Sea Sells Sea Shells' has this warping bass line right across the barfly which allows Lucy to come in and belt out some very addictive vocals.......With impressive drumming that seals the band, the crowd get to know how this 3 piece are so annoyingly good! The band left the crowd all popped up with those bass lines, drums and high vocals ringing around people's head's, probably for some months to come!

The old Liverpool scene has become very happy and colourful!

Keep The Funk :)
