The Candle Thieves
The Candle Thieves - The Sunshine EP
Released: 20th September 2009
Label: Alcopop

For Scott McEwan and The Glock, music has always been a passion. They attended sixth form together studying music, but lost touch when each pursued the music dream and toured the world. One thing was missing from their lives, the opportunity to make their own style of music, something a little more intimate and simplistic. Before long the two teamed up and The Candle Thieves was born.

Their recent release may only consist of four songs but each is unique in its own way. Throughout the songs the lads explore and experiment with a variety of musical instruments from drums and guitars to a toy piano, shakers and glockenspiels. The CD opens with ‘Sunshine Song,’ a track that sounds less vibrant and sunny and more like the sun hidden behind clouds since it holds a reserved nature. ‘My Love Will Clap Its Hands For You,’ a gentle song with a bright atmosphere that introduces a chiming beat, underpinning of drums and a more emotional vocal contribution, quickly follows this. Next to make its presence know is ‘The State That I'm In’. This one has a darker more sinister ambience, a depressed and fairly suspicious nature. Closing the Ep is gentle guitar friendly ‘Lonely, Lonely, Lonely’. There are tender chimes and peaceful plucking of guitar strings with this one; a soothing sense, being alone as a man shares his thoughts with the world.

‘The Sunshine Ep’ is a comforting and tranquil record with just the right amount of lively action to stop you from dozing off into a peaceful sleep.
