The Subways - With You

Here’s a Jeopardy answer for you: A trendy young two piece rock band based around a couple. A year ago one would have said The White Stripes, but then Jack went and got married or something. So is it Sonny and Cher? It’s unlikely seeing that one of looks dead and the other one actually is. So who is this rock squeeze? Well, I’ll give you a clue: they’re more ‘underground’ than most.

The Subways! Geddit? Arf! Ok, joking aside they aren’t actually a two-piece because there’s a drummer. But the majority of their reviews focus on the fact that there’s a couple fronting the band which means that little drummer Josh barely gets a look-in.

The new single entitled “With You” is a mini-masterpiece coupling ash-style riffs with tribal toms and rolling bass-riffing is the stuff of an indie kids wet dream. The track in question will seem like rock-by-numbers to most, but when you consider their age it really does become a different story. Anyone of this age playing and performing to the standard of these guys get snapped up like gold dust. Rightly so! I’m positive that, like a good sauvignon, they’ll mature into something outstanding and be reaching pop royalty within years.

Billy writes lyrics with all the drive if a man in love; feisty, passionate and sometimes bittersweet. Couple this with the fact that the members seem to know how to knock out a decent melody and you’ll have yourself a new Strokes or Franz facing stardom in a few years. Albeit with a combined age of 24. Bassist, Charlotte Cooper is set to be NMEs ‘rocks hottest female bassist that you can’t touch 2005’, Billy will be the moody rock star boyfriend and little Josh will be… well, banging the drums as well as a little drummer boy should.
