So what happened to wanting to push things forward?
The wax lyrical king of casio tech hop, Mike Skinner, has seemingly abdicated his street poet throne and wants us mere mortals to know that even though he’s raking in the cash and hanging out with proper celebs these days he still gets a bit starstruck when he’s trying to get off with a famous bird, “It’s all so easy, that you get a bit spoilt”. Oh poor you.
The song sparks off with a sly reference to Mossgate where he complains about not being able to do a line of coke because he might get stitched up by someone’s camera phone which is very clever but this is basically a no-brainer song about pulling girls disguised as an autobiographical slice of Streets-by-numbers.
The thing is, 99% of the time he comes across as an intelligent and witty bloke but please this is more patronising than inspiring.
Save it for the Sun exclusive, Mike, when the hits have dried up and the bailiffs are knocking on the door.
And don’t get me started about the appalling use of grammar in the song’s title. If this goes to no.1 then it’s on the back of reputation alone because this is poor. For more information you can visit: http://www.the-streets.co.uk
