The subways were signed off the Glastonbury unsigned competition. Signed to a huge amount of fervour and anticipation they have built up a steady live set along with some notable fans amongst their peers.
‘Alright’ has the stamp of approval from a certain Mr Butch Vig and it looks like it’s their big money production to try and crack the big time. So does it? Well it’s a pop power number in the mould of Ash and although it’s breezy, clean and tidy it needs a bit of rough and scuzzyness to really give it some umph. It’s got a decent enough hook which juxtaposes itself between the bass and drums but lacks some real guts and punch. It’s like getting halfway up Ben Nevis then running out of energy to push on and complete the distance, lets hope this isn’t the highlight of their new long player.
